RR Episode #2 – Going WAY Back!

As promised in the previous episode of The Raycast Review, I went as far back in Doom-modding time as I practically could and found a random mod that is now just over 31 years old as of this post. Killzone – for the original Doom game – by Craig J. Dudle, comes from the days of primitive tools like DEU and BSP builders.

The limitations of the original engine, especially as far as how complex a level could be, meant that the high detail you see in today’s mods was more or less impossible – the engine simple couldn’t handle them in memory. Yet, despite this, many cool, clever and fun maps came out of that era – when, more than likely, you got your mods off the BBS. Killzone did a fairly decent job of providing an action packed, balanced and fun experience with the tools and limitations of the time.
